How TMT bars are made
From iron to TMT bar, in six steps.
A TMT bar has a hard outer layer for strength and a softer core so it bends without breaking. Here is how we make it.
Melting
Sponge iron and selected scrap are melted in the induction furnace. Every melt starts from a known mix.
Chemistry test
A sample from each heat goes to the spectrometer. Nothing is cast until carbon, sulphur and phosphorus are within the grade.
Casting
Liquid steel is cast into square billets and stamped with the heat number that follows it to site.
Rolling
Billets are reheated and rolled to the final size, 8 mm to 32 mm, ribs and all.
TEMPCORE quenching
A water ring hardens the surface while the core stays soft. Strong outside, bendable inside.
Strength test
A bar from the batch is pulled to failure in our NABL lab. The results go on the test certificate with the load.

Which TMT bar grades does RD TMT make?
Fe 500, Fe 550 and Fe 550D, all to IS 1786:2008. Fe 550D has higher elongation and tighter chemistry, which is what engineers ask for in earthquake-resistant design.

Is RD TMT GreenPro certified?
